GEA & Horse Industry Updates

Update Information

This area is to help keep our current students and our graduates updated on new happenings with Global Equine Academy, and to update them on new happenings or trends that we see in the horse industry. Many of the new things in the industry will be added to our classes, but students that have already had the class, would miss that information. In any occupation you must keep up with the new trends and changes. Our students are so dedicated and sincere about being involved in the horse industry, and we want to give them all the help we can to make them successful in their chosen field. We feel by using this area we can help them continue to learn and to keep abreast of the changes in the equine industry. If you have any questions feel free to give us a call or email.

Job Survey

It seems that when most people finally get their degree in equine or even an agriculture degree, they do not know where to start looking for a job. So, Sandy and I along with help from Ali our daughter in-law, are starting a research project on equine jobs. There will be two phases to this project. The first phase will be a survey sent to over a thousand equine related businesses, to see if they would be interested in hiring our graduates, both Certificate graduates and the Associate Degree graduates. The second part will be a job survey of equine jobs that are open at this time to get an estimate of equine job salaries. I am going to use two Equine Job companies that I have used before and they are at equimax.com and equistat.com

We feel that this list will give our graduates a place to start looking for a job, and help students realize the types of equine and equine related jobs that are available. It is hard for us to understand how large the horse industry actually is in the United States.

Here are some stats on the horse industry according to the American Horse Council that will give you an idea of the scope of the horse industry :

  1. Total economic impact exceeds $112 billion.
  2. 1.9 million people in the United States own 6.9 million horses.
  3. More than 7 million Americans participate in the horse industry- one in every 35 Americans are involved in horses.
  4. The industry's contribution to the U.S. GDP is greater than the motion picture services, railroad transportation, furniture and fixtures manufacturing and tobacco products manufacturing industries. Only slightly smaller than the apparel and other textile products manufacturing.
  5. In terms of employment, the industry directly employs more people than railroads, radio and television broadcasting, petroleum and coal products manufacturing and tobacco product manufacturing.
  6. Our goal is to be able to show you where many of these specific jobs are, not just a list of different types of occupations. No one, that I know of has done, this type of a specific study.
